Remeandering straightened rivers

Health & Safety and CDM Issues

There may be a range of potential health and safety issues associated with remeandering a straightened river channel, particularly while construction works are undertaken. Standard precautions associated with working in or near river channels should therefore be strictly adhered to.

Remeandered channels with steep banks and deep water can potentially pose a hazard to people and wildlife.  However, features incorporating shallower slopes and ledges are unlikely to present a major hazard.
