PROJECT SUMMARY

This research was commissioned to scope a new risk-informed approach to reservoir regulation and provided the first stage in the evidence base to develop procedures to impose differential requirements for reservoir safety.

The approach involved the identification and review of risks, stakeholder engagement and a scoping review of acceptable risk levels in current reservoir safety best practice and other comparable fields.

Key  Findings:
 - The study showed there is a willingness to move towards a risk-informed approach throughout the reservoir safety community. However, it is also recognised that business capacity for change is limited and a number of difficult implementation issues need to be worked through.
