PROJECT CLOSING STATEMENT

The emphasis in the strategy `Making Space for Water` on managing risks and a clear alignment with the Government’s Sustainable Development Strategy provides an opportunity for more sustainable flood and erosion risk management in England and Wales. The project developed a set of principles and guidance to help policy makers and practitioners make better decisions that deliver the greatest environmental, social and economic benefits. It should be noted that it does not constitute official government policy or guidance, which will be provided through the developing work on appraisal under Making Space for Water. In the interim it is suggested that any application of the guidance within this report is only undertaken following consultation with Defra’s Flood Management Division.
