The technical information and research findings from the project are presented in a technical report, which is recommended for use in two areas: enhancing the understanding of public warning and information dissemination for the Environment agency, its research programs and its Multi Media Warning Dissemination Service (now Flood Line),and recommendations to the Cabinet Office from the National Steering Committee for Warning and Informing the Public and other similarly interested bodies.

Summary Objective
To build on FD2202 `Improving dissemination of flood warnings` To develop more effective methods for the dissemination of flood warnings by identifying the opportunities that recent technological advances could provide to give earlier, more targeted warnings and to ensure the maximum receipt of warnings and reduce operation costs.

FD2209 reflects Defra`s policy objective to encourage the provision of adequate and cost effective flood warning systems by establishing optimum approaches for the dissemination of flood warnings to all target audiences, maintaining optimum and cost effective use of both current and planned communication technologies
