This guide explains the different methods available to understand the risk posed by (generally) small reservoirs. It aims to help inform the decisions on the planning, design and management of reservoirs, and to help minimise the risk posed to those living and working downstream of a reservoir.

Research has been undertaken to produce an appropriate simplified method for reservoir risk categorisation based on dam breach flood effects.
