• Undertake a scientific review of previous work trying to define coastal squeeze

• Provide a summary of the different current definitions and agreements in place throughout the UK

• Provide a robust scientifically underpinned definition of future habitat loss and the role that coastal squeeze places within that loss.

• Demonstration of how this definition can be used in practice to verify coastal squeeze losses in an estuary based on monitoring This work will need to take account, but not be limited to

• Understanding the critical factors in determining the threshold between marsh accretion and erosion

• Understanding the role of short-term and longer term geomorphic processes in natural change compared to accelerated change caused by sea level rise
